Three steps. The import runs on your device.

1. Export from Pocket Casts

  1. In Pocket Casts on your iPhone, open the Profile tab, then Settings.
  2. Choose Import & Export OPML, then Send email or Save file. Either one gives you the file.

2. Get the file to Parasocial

  1. Save the file to Files on this iPhone.
  2. Or AirDrop it to the iPad or Mac you will use Parasocial on. Either is fine; the import is the same.

3. Import into Parasocial

  1. In Parasocial, open Library and tap Import. It is also in Settings, under Import from Another App.
  2. Tap Choose a File and pick the export. Your shows come back one by one, and the screen tells you when it is finished.

FAQ

What comes over from Pocket Casts?

Your shows. The export is a list of the podcasts you follow, and Parasocial subscribes to every one of them, artwork and back catalogue and all.

What does not come over?

Everything else. The file carries subscriptions and nothing else, so your filters, your playlists, which episodes you have played, how far into each one you were, your starred episodes and your bookmarks stay where they are. You start fresh on all of it in Parasocial. The file is also a list rather than audio, so episodes download again.

Can I export from something other than an iPhone?

The steps above are the iPhone ones, which is what Pocket Casts documents. Wherever else you can export an OPML, that file works the same way: get it to your iPhone, iPad or Mac and open Import.

Does Pocket Casts stay installed?

Yes. Exporting copies your list; it changes nothing in Pocket Casts. Keep both for as long as you like and delete it when you are ready, or never.

Is anything uploaded?

No. The import runs on your device and the file goes nowhere. Parasocial subscribes to each show in it, and from then on your subscriptions, playlists and progress sync between your own devices.

Can I do this on a Mac or an iPad?

Yes. Parasocial imports on iPhone, iPad and Mac. Export on your iPhone, get the file to whichever device you like, and open Import there.

What about a file from another podcast app?

Any player's OPML export works and brings your subscriptions. Some apps write more into the file than others, and Parasocial reads whatever is there.
